Supporting Caregivers and Professionals
Are you struggling to parent a child or teenager who has experienced trauma? Do you struggle with your child’s behavior management at home? Have you ever thought about gentle parenting techniques as a means to better relate to your child? Would trauma-informed parenting skills help you?
Are you a professional who works with families that need trauma-informed parenting techniques? Do you need trauma-informed care certification? Need help developing coping skills for dealing with behaviors? There are many aspects of your job that could benefit from trauma training with NOAS.
If you answered yes to any of these questions, NOAS has programs that can support you.
To help caregivers and professionals understand and navigate the impact of trauma on youth, we offer Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) and CORE Teen (Critical Ongoing Resource Family Education) training programs and parenting classes. These trauma-informed training programs focus specifically on challenges facing caregivers of youth and teenagers who are separated from their birth family and may be placed in foster, kinship, guardianship, or adoptive care. These programs help with parenting foster youth to provide coping skills dealing with behaviors.
Get answers to common questions about our TBRI® and CORE Teen training programs and parenting classes, designed to support caregivers and professionals in addressing the unique challenges faced by traumatized youth.
What is TBRI® and who can use it?
TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection. Parents, teachers, caregivers, or anyone working closely with children who have been affected by adversity, early harm, toxic stress, or trauma can benefit from TBRI®.
What is CORE Teen and who can use it?
CORE Teen is a useful resource for prospective or current caregivers (foster, kinship, adoptive, and guardianship) or anyone who is or will be working with or raising older children from foster care who have moderate to severe emotional and behavioral challenges due to past trauma.
Caregivers need multiple exposures to training about trauma to help them understand the reasons behind behaviors and be provided with skills and tools to effectively manage these behaviors.
What is the difference between TBRI® and CORE Teen?
TBRI® and CORE Teen are both state-of-the-art, evidence-based trauma-informed parenting classes. TBRI® focuses on the three main principles of Connecting, Empowering, and Correcting youth through a trauma-informed lens. CORE Teen is “a training program equipping resource parents with the skills necessary to meet the needs of older youth with moderate to serious emotional and behavioral health challenges.”
TBRI® focuses on children under the age of 11 while CORE Teen focuses on children 11 and over.
Why use trauma-informed parenting?
It is often necessary to use parenting strategies that account for the unique needs of youth with histories of adversity, early harm, toxic stress, and/or trauma. In trauma-informed parenting, parents consider the differences in the bodies, brains, behaviors, beliefs, and biographies of children who have experienced these traumas and tailor solutions accordingly.
Is in-home coaching available with this trauma informed parenting program?
Yes, NOAS offers TBRI® in-home coaching to families who have completed the TBRI® training classes. We send one of our certified TBRI® practitioners to your home to assess your needs and assist you with practicing and implementing Trust-Based Relational Intervention strategies.
If so, please register for the parenting classes below. The trauma-informed training classes are free of charge.

This content is so helpful! More parents and teachers need this training. It made me think about so much that I can do with my kids.”
It was great overall and very relevant, the one area it made me realize is I have a kiddo who gets to level 4 quite often – I need to understand this level more in depth but the TBRI® training brought that to my attention.
