NOAS (Northeast Ohio Adoption Services) understands that adoptive families need supportive help to deal with the everyday challenges of special needs parenting.

Adoption is a very important time in the life of your family.  As parent(s) you are able to put into practice all of the knowledge you gained while preparing for your adoption. Now, all the conversations with your social worker during your home study and the stories shared during your adoption training will begin to come together in a tangible way.

The NOAS team wants to do everything possible to make that journey a smooth one for all members of the family – now and well into the future. Our post-placement and post-adoption services help NOAS families with the challenges that may arise from their adoption experience.

We Provide:

  • Home Visits

    Your NOAS caseworker will provide monthly post-placement home visitation. Your caseworker helps you as it is the hope that post-placement home visits are beneficial for families, not just in receiving additional support if necessary, but also in reflecting on your child’s progress. Monthly home visits continue until legalization.

  • Telephone Support

    Telephone support is always available for all NOAS families. You can schedule as a virtual meeting or phone call, one-on-one guidance can be scheduled at your convenience.

  • Education and Materials on Adoption Issues

    Post-placement and post-adoption education is an integral ingredient for healthy adoptive parents. The adoptee grows from childhood to adulthood and the adoptive parent grows from each parenting experience. The NOAS team is here to keep you and your family growing in the right direction.   • Referrals to Community Resources

    Parenting itself is a challenge when adding adoption issues, parents today will find themselves with many bumps in the road, as will our children. Please view our online resources to help guide you and your family.

  • Respite Services

    Respite care provides you, the parent, with a break from the constant demands of caring for your special needs adopted child (children). It may be used for planned activities or emergency situations. It is not to be used for regular daycare. Please get in touch with your caseworker.

  • Access to Financial Resources for Services

    Adoption subsidies are available to help with the costs of caring for children with special needs after legalization. Additional financial support may be available on a case by case basis. Let our highly trained team help direct you to additional resources to support you after legalization.

Our goals are to:

  • Reduce Family Stress

    By providing specialized post-placement and post-adoption support, NOAS enables families to focus on what matters most: each other.

  • Stabilize and Improve Behaviors

    Adopted children have experienced a great deal of suffering that does not go away after adoption. However, many behaviors related to trauma improve with consistent positive parenting, counseling, and coaching. NOAS links families to supportive services to help with behavior management.

  • Educate And Support Parents

    NOAS strives to continually educate and support our families by offering monthly support groups and on-going training focused on a variety of topics such as IEP plans, psychotropic medications, healthy sleep habits and many other topics.

  • Link Families with Community Resources

    After adoption, there is an array of assistance available to families. By researching and connecting parents to these resources, NOAS helps families feel more supported than ever.
