Qualifications to become an adoptive parent

At NOAS we welcome moms and dads from ALL walks of life! There are some common misconceptions about who can be an adoptive parent, but we are here to dismantle those:

You DON’T have to be wealthy, married, heterosexual, a specific religion or race, or be experienced to be a foster parent! You can work outside the home. You can be retired. You can have pets … and the list goes on!

You may be surprised at how easily you may qualify to become an adoptive parent!

See if you meet the basic requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

  • Applicants must have at least 2 bedrooms.

  • Applicants must have a sufficient & stable form of income.

  • Applicants must have a valid and good standing driver’s license or a reliable plan for transportation.

  • Applicants must be in good physical and mental health as determined by a physician.

  • Applicants must be free from any drug or alcohol addiction or be in recovery.

  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check and an Alleged Perpetration Check.

  • Both parents must complete all training sessions.
